Mr. Thomas Moultrie, Sr.

Mr. Thomas Moultrie, Sr., a beloved husband, father, and grandfather, was born on March 22, 1956, in Columbia, SC. He was one of seven children born to the late Benjamin Moultire and Ellen Richardson Moultrie.

Educated in the public schools of Richland County, Thomas graduated from Booker T. Washington High School in 1974, the final class to do so. He went on to establish Columbia East Drain Service, a plumbing business he successfully owned and operated for over 30 years before passing the torch to his son in 2018.

Thomas was a man of many talents and a generous heart. His love for working with his hands and helping others made his customers feel like family. Beyond his professional life, he found joy in gardening, watching football, traveling, and most importantly, spending quality time with his grandchildren.

In addition to his parents, Thomas was preceded in death by his brother, Steve Moultrie.

Thomas leaves behind his cherished wife, Gail Alston Moultrie of Lexington, SC; his daughter, Ashley Moultrie of Lexington, SC; and his son, Thomas (Jer’Quille) Moultire, Jr. of West Columbia, SC; his brothers, Anthony (Gwen) Moultrie of Columbia, SC, Lucius (Addie) Moultrie of West Columbia, SC, and Michael (Charlene) Moultire of Columbia, SC; his sisters, Shirley (William) Newman of Upper Marlboro, MD and Lula Heatley of Perryville, MD. Additionally, Thomas leaves behind his brothers-in-law, Ronald (Arlene) Alston of Columbia, SC, Marion (Christine) Alston of Irmo, SC and Dwight (Michelle) Austin of Columbia, SC; his sister-in-law, Vivian (Isaac) Williams of Columbia, SC; his three adored grandchildren, Deanna Simone Moultrie, Breland Lee Moultrie, and Delia Nicole “Li-Li” Moultrie; and a host of nieces, nephews, other loving relatives and friends, who will all miss him deeply.

Thomas Moultrie, Sr.’s legacy of kindness, hard work, and dedication to his family and community will be remembered fondly by all who knew him.
