Ronald Pratt, Sr., lovingly known as “Big Ron,” was born on April 6, 1956 in Columbia, SC. He departed this life peacefully on March 19, 2025 after a brief illness, while surrounded by his loving wife, family, and friends.
Ronald was the beloved son of Frank and Mable Ford Pratt. In addition to his parents, Ronald was preceded in death by his siblings Mae Francis, Albert, Timothy, and Kenneth Pratt.
From an early age, Ronald worshipped with his family at Cleave’s Memorial CME Church in Columbia, SC. He was educated in Richland School District One and proudly graduated from Booker T. Washington High School with the Class of 1974.
Ronald shared a beautiful life with his devoted and loving wife of 22 years, Mable Benbow Pratt. Together, they enjoyed traveling, visiting casinos, cheering for his favorite football team, the Washington Commanders, and hosting events for family and friends.
After dedicating over 28 years of service to the South Carolina Department of Corrections, Ronald retired, having worked at CCI Correctional Institution, Kirkland Correctional Institution, and Burns Clinic. Known as a man of few words, his wisdom and actions spoke volumes. A self-taught craftsman, he had an extraordinary talent and passion for transforming homes, making repairs, building decks, landscaping and lending a helping hand to family and friends whenever needed.
