Mr. Richard Horton, Jr. Obituary

Mr. Richard J. Horton was born on May 7, 1981, in Manhattan, Kansas, the beloved son of
Richard Horton Sr. and Joyce Horton. He departed this life on Friday, July 19, 2024.

Richard graduated from Brookland-Cayce High School, Class of 1999, in Cayce, South Carolina.
He furthered his education at Benedict College, earning a Bachelor of Science degree in 2006.
Richard dedicated ten years of his career as an Activity Therapist at several geriatric facilities,
demonstrating his compassion and commitment to the well-being of others.

In 2003, Richard accepted Christ as his Lord and Savior at Christ Church of Columbia and was
baptized in June 2006. He actively participated in numerous church outreach programs, including
the Van Ministry, Men's Ministry, and Media Ministry. He also served as the Media Director on
the Christ Advisory Team and was the Media Advisor for his sister church in Augusta, Georgia.
Richard was ordained as a Deacon in June 2023, reflecting his deep faith and dedication to his
church community.

While attending college in 2002, Richard met his loving wife, Erica Patrick. They were married
in September 2008 and their union was blessed with two handsome sons, Christian James and
Channing Nicholas. Richard's genuine love for his family and friends was evident in his passions
for cooking, swimming, entertaining, and technology, which he used to enrich their lives. He was
the ultimate Kansas City Chiefs fan and witnessed their 2020 Super Bowl victory.

In 2016, Richard took a leap of faith and transitioned to a career in Information Technology,
earning an Advanced Desktop and Server Administration certificate from Midland Technical
College. He was employed by the City of Columbia’s Information Technology Department for
six years. In October 2023, Richard began working at his dream job at South State Bank, where
he was cherished by his colleagues. His dedication and passion were evident in everything he
did, and his contributions were deeply appreciated.

Richard was preceded in death by his mother, Joyce Horton, and his nephew, Joshua Fisher. He
