Michell Leo Jones, the youngest child of Edmond B. Jones and Helen Shields Jones, was born March 12,
1955. Michell went home to be with the Lord on April 21, 2025.
Michell was educated in the Public Schools of Chesterfield County, and in 1973, was a proud graduate of
Cheraw High School. After graduation, he enlisted into the United States Army in September of 1973. He
served ten years with the Military Band and worked ten years in the Department of Logistics. Michell
received many accolades and merits as a unit supply sergeant before his retirement in October 1993. He
also retired from the City of Columbia, Water Department, after many years of service.
Michell was a member of the Mighty Gospel Leaders and was always ready and willing to sing at any
function. He had a lifelong passion for fishing, hunting, and car racing. He also had a love for music that
was unmatched, especially for gospel, blues and old school.
August 10, 1985, Michell was united in holy matrimony to Debra Coleman Jones, and October 7, 1988,
they were blessed with a baby boy, Michquel.
Michell leaves to cherish his memory with his wife of nearly 40 years, Debra Jones of Columbia, SC;
three sons, Michquel Jones of Columbia, SC, Tyrone (Jesuite) Ellerbee of Rockingham, NC, and Jeramie
(Courtney) Gillespie of Charlotte, NC; one brother, Wilson (Lysinina) Jones; a sister, Cynthia (Ernest)
Hooks of Cheraw, SC; eight grandchildren; five great grandchildren; two brothers-in-law and four sisters-
in-law; and a host of nieces, nephews and other loving family members and friends.
