Mr. Marvin Nixon Obituary

Marvin Demetrius Nixon, affectionately known as Peetsy, was the eldest son born to the late Claude Nixon, Sr. and Ora Lee Howard Nixon Battle on February 27, 1945 in Smithfield, North Carolina. He departed this earthly journey on November 6, 2021.

Marvin excelled academically in junior and senior high school.  He graduated Valedictorian of his class in 1963. Following high school, he attended North Carolina Central University where he received an academic scholarship and studied Chemistry. While in college, Marvin pledged Omega Psi Phi Fraternity. In between his junior and senior years, he took a break from his studies and was drafted into the U.S. Army. Marvin took his academic excellence into the military, where he served in leadership positions at various duty stations for over thirty years, achieving the rank of Master Sergeant. He later retired in 1992.

Marvin was a protective and caring older brother.  He instilled discipline and gave tough love to his younger siblings.  He was an avid story teller, and frequently entertained his family when he would mimic neighborhood characters.

In addition to his parents, Marvin was preceded in death by his step-father, Rubin Battle, Sr.; two brothers, Claude Nixon, Jr. and Reuben Battle Jr.; and former wife, Everlyn Nixon.

Left behind to cherish his precious memories are his wife, Betty B. Nixon; two daughters, Cassandra (Tony) Thompson and Niesha Nixon; five brothers, William Nixon, Richard Battle, Robert Battle, Donald Nixon, and Dwayne Nixon; two sisters, Geraldine battle and Susan Parker; one granddaughter, Dallas Thomspon; one great-grandson, Trey Thompson; and a host of uncles, aunts, nieces, nephews, cousins, and a host of other family and friends.
