Mr. Lawrence Sherman, Jr. Obituary

Lawrence Bai Sherman, Jr., affectionately known as “LJ”, was born on October 8, 2001, in Columbia, South Carolina to Lawrence Sherman, Sr. and Jamie Rocker-Gore. He received his wings on Sunday, December 19, 2021.

LJ was educated in the public schools of the Clover School District and Richland School District Two. He graduated from Spring Valley High School, Class of 2020. While attending Spring Valley, LJ enjoyed participating in various sports and was a proud member of the varsity football team and varsity lacrosse team.

LJ was attending Midlands Technical College for engineering and was a cadet at the University of South Carolina Army ROTC program. In 2020, he decided to serve his country by enlisting in the United States Army National Guard. He was a Private First Class with the 178th Engineer Battalion as a Carpentry Masonry Specialist. LJ was also employed at Wildwood Downs Retirement Community.

LJ developed a love and passion for music at a young age. He played the drums and piano for his church. When LJ wasn’t working or at drill, he would often spend time playing football, basketball, and working out with his friends. He was well loved by everyone and was known for his big, beautiful smile.

LJ was preceded in death by his maternal grandparents, James Earl Rocker and Viola Sharkey Rocker; paternal grandmother, Angela Freeman; and two uncles, William Sherman, Jr. and Billie Bright, II.

LJ leaves to cherish his precious memory his mother, Jamie (William) Rocker-Gore of Elgin, SC; father, Lawrence (Denise) Sherman, Sr. of Columbia, SC; four sisters, Imani Lloyd of Charleston, SC, Jade (Jamal) Sherman of Waynesville, MO, Hateria Goodwin of Columbia, SC, and Leila Sherman of Elgin, SC; one brother, Lawson Sherman of Elgin, SC; grandparents, William and Oliver Sherman of Clearwater, FL; two nephews, Jaden McCray and Romelo Sims of Waynesville, MO; and a host of aunts, uncles, cousins, relatives and friends who will all miss him dearly.
