Kenneth Eugene Ashford, affectionately known as “Kenny”, was born on January 13, 1962, in Columbia, South Carolina to the late Mary Elizabeth Strong and Calvin Ashford. He was lovingly raised by Sarah Wiggins. He departed this life on May 20, 2023.
Kenny was educated in the public schools of Richland County and was a proud graduate of Dreher High School, Class of 1980. He furthered his education and received his associate degree from Midlands Technical College.
Kenny was an airman in the United States Air Force and served as an Administration Specialist. At the time of his honorable discharge, he obtained the rank of Sergeant.
In the early 1990's, Kenny began his career with the Department of Social Services in Economic Services. A few years later he established his career in Information Technology at the University of South Carolina, while also becoming an Assistant Coach at Benedict College. Kenny briefly relocated to Raleigh, North Carolina and returned home as a Network Administrator. He was recently employed at Trane Corporation as a Network Systems Administrator.
Kenny enjoyed technology, family, coaching AAU basketball, watching his favorite team, the UNC Tarheels play, bowling, and most of all spending time with his grandson, Zamari .
In addition to his parents, Kenny was preceded in death by his sister, Janie Wiggins Tuator.
Kenny is survived by his daughter, Reenoshia Ashford; son, Kenneth Eugene Ashford II; grandson, Zamari Hammond; mother, Sarah Wiggins; sisters, Ethel Pearson and Mittie Washington; brothers, Odell (Mary) Wiggins, Edward (Gail) Wiggins, and Anthony McCasid; and a host of loving aunts, uncles, nieces, nephews, relatives, and friends.
