Mr. John Merriweather Obituary

John Timothy Merriweather, affectionately known as “John John” to those who knew him best, has left a legacy of love, laughter, and unwavering dedication to his family and community. Born on January 26, 1971, in Macon, Georgia, John's journey through life was one marked by service, athleticism, and an infectious sense of humor that could light up any room. He passed away on November 7, 2024, in Columbia, South Carolina, leaving behind a family that adored him and a community that respected him deeply.

John's early life in Macon was filled with the joys of competition and the spirit of teamwork. A standout athlete at Southeast High School, he graduated in the class of 1990, having earned Letters of Accomplishment in football, basketball, and track and field. His prowess on the field was matched only by his commitment to his faith. John accepted Christ at a young age and was an active member of Pleasant Grove Missionary Baptist Church, where he sang in the Angel's Youth Choir and participated in the youth ministry.

His spiritual journey continued at The Body at Park Street Church of Christ, where he deepened his faith and connection to his community. John's dedication to service extended beyond the church walls, he enlisted in the Marine Corps on December 13, 1990, as he proudly served his country as a Marine Weapons Specialist, displaying the same commitment and teamwork that he had on the sports field.  After being honorably discharge on December 28, 1997, from the military, he continued to protect and serve as a Macon Police Officer, a role he embraced with honor and courage.

Eventually, John settled down in Columbia, South Carolina, where he built a life that was rich in love and companionship.  On February 27, 2016, he married Connie Sapp. His home became a haven for friends and family, a testament to his selfless nature and his desire to bring joy to those around him. An avid fisherman, John found peace and solace on the water, often surrounded by loved ones who shared in his adventurous spirit.

John's passing is preceded by his father and both paternal and maternal grandparents. He is survived by a loving circle of family members who will forever cherish his memory. His wife, Connie Merriweather, stood by him as a partner in all of life's adventures. His sons, Justin and Jackson Merriweather, will carry on his legacy of kindness and strength. His stepdaughters, Victoria Caldwell and Brianna Sapp, were blessed to have his guidance and support. His mother, Joyce Merriweather, his siblings, Kenneth Jones, Tyrone, and Dessie Merriweather, his mother-in-law, Delores Wilcher, sister-in-law, Angie Creech, and brother-in-law, Tony Creech, will all hold dear the memories of a man who was the epitome of selflessness.

John was a man who could be described in many ways: selfless, adventurous, funny. But above all, he was a beacon of light for his family and his community. His laughter could turn a difficult day around, and his willingness to lend a hand knew no bounds. John's life was one of purpose and joy, and his impact will be felt for generations to come.

John Timothy Merriweather, life filled with love, laughter, and a deep commitment to others. “John-John”, as he was lovingly called, will be missed, but the memories he created will forever be a source of comfort and inspiration to all who were fortunate enough to know him.
