Mr. John Holmes

John Holmes was born March 12, 1936 in Passaic, New Jersey, to Mr. Vernell Holmes, Sr. and
Mrs. Alberta Huggins Holmes. He was the second to oldest of four sons. He received his
education in the public schools in Passaic and Paterson New Jersey.
He accepted Christ at an early age and was baptized at Roger Williams Baptist Church of Passaic
New Jersey. Upon leaving school he joined the United States Air Force in 1954, where served
until 1962.
In 1964, John was joined in holy matrimony to Marion Holmes in New Jersey. To this union,
three children were born. He was an insurance agent at Metropolitan until retirement.
He was predeceased by his wife, Marion Holmes, daughter Janet Holmes, sons Jerry and Rick
Holmes; granddaughter Shikira Holmes, three brothers Robert, Charles and Vernell, Jr. Holmes.
He leaves to cherish his fond memories, daughters Dennet Sutton (Johnny) and Jeanna Holmes
of Columbia South Carolina and sons William and Wayne Holmes and Bernard Zeigler of New
Jersey; 18 grandchildren, 12 great grandchildren and a host of nieces and nephews, cousins and
friends.
