Jesse Lewis Gilliam was born on February 15, 1965, to Jesse and Rosa Gilliam. As the eldest of
two sons, he embraced his role with a quiet strength and presence that would come to define his
life.
Jesse departed this life on March 21, 2026, leaving behind a legacy of kindness, generosity, and
peace. Affectionately known to many as “Red” or “Lew,” he was a man whose presence brought
comfort and balance to those around him.
He attended Columbia High School and later continued his education at Fayetteville State
University. During his younger years, Jesse was active in both athletics and the arts, playing
football and spending time in the school band.
Jesse had a deep appreciation for martial arts and was especially fond of watching films featuring
Bruce Lee. His love for discipline and inner peace was reflected in the way he lived his life. He
was known for his calm demeanor and his ability to bring harmony in moments of chaos.
A man of quiet compassion, Jesse often expressed his love through his actions rather than words.
He was deeply devoted to his friends and gave of himself freely, always willing to support and
uplift those he cared about.
He was also a member of organizations such as Jack and Jill of America and Avent Guard, where
he further demonstrated his commitment to community and connection.
Jesse was preceded in death by his parents, Jesse and Rosa Gilliam.
He leaves to cherish his memory his younger brother, Kerry Gilliam; his nephew, Yuri Gilliam;
his life partner and devoted friend, Carla; and a host of aunts, uncles, and cousins who will miss
him dearly.
Jesse will be remembered for his gentle spirit, his unwavering pursuit of peace, and the lasting
impact he made on all who had the privilege of knowing him.
