James Henry Prince, Sr. was born February 28, 1945, to the late Henry & Victoria Hampton
Prince. He transitioned from this earthy life on Thursday, May 8, 2025.
Mr. Prince attended the public schools of Richland County School District One. He was a 1964
graduate of Booker T. Washington High School. Having worked a myriad of various professions
over the course of his life, he began working at the age of 12 and continued this work ethic until
his retirement from Hilton Properties in 2011. Most notably, Mr. Prince served in the Army
earning him various medals and awards and accomplished his goal of becoming a “jumper”
serving in Vietnam. He was a proud soldier and valued the time he dedicated to serving his
country.
For 80 years, Mr. Prince was also a devoted husband, father, grandfather, brother, uncle, cousin
and friend. With his boisterous laugh and outgoing spirit, he was loved by everyone he met.
Mr. Prince embraced Christ at an early age attending The Greater St. Luke Baptist Church and
was a member of the Greater New Williams Street Baptist Church upon his death.
He leaves precious memories in the hearts of many! Celebrating his life and legacy is his wife,
Elder Paul Jean Haynes Prince of Columbia, SC; his children, James “Spanky” Denny of
Kentucky; Shantina Rochelle (Horace [predeceased]) Foulks-Prince; Antoine Young of Chicago,
IL; Cornelius C. Prince of Syracuse, NY; Kimberly Cassandria (Marsalius) Watson of Columbia,
SC; and James Henry Prince, Jr. of Charlotte, NC; along with 9 grandchildren; 10 great-
grandchildren; his sisters, Henrietta P. Suber, Julia P. (John) Edwards; Mary P. Barnette, Gloria
(Leroy) Felder, Valeria A. Prince and Lisa Leacock; along with his brothers, Mr. Walter A.
Prince and Tony Hammette, all of Columbia, SC; a host of nieces, nephews, cousins and his
loving brothers and sisters of Booker T. Washington alumni. As former members of the
Columbia Gentlemen’s Club, a group of long-time friends, he leaves his good friend, Mr. Jerry
Montgomery.
