Erin Jamal Delk, affectionately known as “E.J.”, was born on October 16, 1993 to Erika Delk and Eric Shaw. He departed this earthly journey on August 8, 2022 at the age of 28.
Erin became a member of Goodwill Baptist Church in Eastover, South Carolina at an early age. There he looked forward to participating in many youth activities.
Erin was educated in the public schools of Richland County where he was a gifted student. He participated in Odyssey of the Minds and enjoyed playing sports and other activities with Richland County Parks and Recreation. Erin was a proud graduate of Lower Richland High School, Class of 2012.
Erin loved barbering and received his certificate for it from Heyward Career Center. He used his barbering talents to serve friends, family, and the community, including those who were homebound and in need of his services. Shortly after receiving his certificate and excelling in barbering, he transitioned from cutting hair to cutting onions. His new love was cooking and his desire was to become a chef. Erin worked at various restaurants in Columbia and surrounding areas. His love and excitement for cooking became evident when he met Chef Corey LaBoo and began to work with him. Although his love for cooking was immense, so was his love for making people laugh. No matter how he may have aggravated you in the process, his goal of making you laugh was always accomplished in the end. Above all of his passions, Erin’s children brought him the greatest joy.
Erin was preceded in death by his sister, Brittney Shaw; grandfather, Carl Cherry, Sr.; aunt, Monique Delk; and uncle, Parrish ‘Deon’ Delk.
Erin leaves to cherish his infectious laugh and joyous memories his two sons, Eryeon and Kayden of Columbia, SC; four daughters, Asiyah, Amtullah, Amari and Erin all of Columbia, SC; mother, Erika (Alvin) Delk Howell; father, Eric Shaw; one sister, Aryah Howell; two step-brothers, Ryan and Zyan Howell; grandparents, Mose and Joyce Delk of Eastover, SC, and Laura Cherry of Columbia, SC; one aunt, Olivia Delk of Eastover, SC; five uncles, Ryan, Jamal, and Brandon Delk all of Eastover, SC, and Carl and Michael Cherry of Columbia, SC; and a host of loving relatives and devoted friends.
