Mr. Elihu Burritt Obituary

It is with a heavy heart that we announce the passing of our beloved husband, father, and grandfather, Elihu Thomas Burritt, on April 12, 2024. He was born on November 3, 1948, in Bridgeport, CT, and later relocated to Columbia, SC, where he built a rich and fulfilling life surrounded by his friends and family. He died peacefully surrounded by his loved ones.

Tom is survived by his devoted wife of 44 years, Kayoko, who stood by his side through thick and thin, sharing a lifetime of happiness together. He leaves behind his son Jonathon Burritt and his daughter-in-law Charise, his two adored grandchildren, Fallon and Kaylee, his daughter Shannon Thompson and his son-in-law Trey, as well as his sister Susan Koperwhats, his nephews Aaron and Michael, and Michael’s wife, Beth Koperwhats.

Tom had a love of Japan and enjoyed yearly trips to visit his friends and family, which notably included his sister-in-law Mayumi, his niece Kei, and his grand-nephew Rio. Tom loved the rich and vibrant culture of Japan, including visiting temples that were thousands of years old in Yanaizu to seeing the peak of technology in Tokyo. Tom was always up for a ride on the bullet train to whatever next adventure lie ahead.

As a mechanical engineer, Tom applied his intellect and passion to his work, leaving a lasting impact on the projects he led. Beyond his professional pursuits, he had a remarkable wit and sense of humor, bringing laughter and joy to those around him. He had a love for Star Trek and often immersed himself in the world of exploration and discovery. Tom was also a devoted Corvette enthusiast, finding solace and joy with a multitude of Corvettes throughout the years.

Tom was known throughout his neighborhood for his daily walks, a ritual that brought him great pride. His neighbors could always count on seeing him strolling along the sidewalks, serving as a source of inspiration to those around him. Tom not only nourished his own soul but also emanated positivity and resilience to all who crossed his path, as Tom was never too busy to stop and have a conversation or share a laugh. His commitment to wellness and his unwavering dedication to maintaining an active lifestyle served as a beacon of hope, reminding others of the importance of embracing in life's simple pleasures.

In his passing, Tom leaves behind a legacy of love, laughter, and cherished memories that will continue to resonate in the hearts of those who knew and loved him. May he rest in peace, knowing that his spirit lives on in the lives he touched and the memories he created.
