Edwin Cornelius Whitman, affectionately known as “Ed”, was born February 15, 1947 in Columbia, South Carolina to the late Edwin C. and Phyllis D. Whitman. He went to Heaven on August 20, 2020. Ed grew up in Columbia, South Carolina with his extended family of aunts and uncles. He remained close throughout his life to his sister, Barbara Kester and brother, Skeeter Whitman who loved him with all their hearts.
Ed graduated from B.C. High School and then served in the United States Air Force. Ed excelled at all sports and continued to play basketball for the Air Force. He married and had one son, David Whitman, who gave him two grandchildren, Shelby and Chris. He later remarried to Sharon Whitman and they had three grandchildren: Azahria, Karina, and Steven. Ed loved his family with all his heart and showed them love whenever he could. He is also survived by several nieces and nephews, as well as many dear friends.
Ed suffered a stroke 16 years ago and was limited in his speech. He loved to worship the Lord and could still sing the hymns he loved. He was a member of First Nazareth Baptist Church and Calvary Chapel. He had a servant’s heart working at Harvest Hope when he could. Ed would ask that we all serve the Lord in all we do and to show those we love just how much we need them every day.
