Dwight Omar Fearrington, born on October 9, 1952, in Durham County, North Carolina,
to the late Charlie Fearrington and the late Bernice Davis Fearrington, passed away
April 18th 2025.
Dwight received his education in the North Carolina, Chapel Hill, and Carrboro school
systems before furthering his studies at Honolulu Community College in Hawaii, where
he earned a two-year associate's degree. He completed a four-year apprenticeship
program with the International Brotherhood of Electricians, in Fort Campbell, Kentucky.
He received his journeyman electrician license status in Richmond, Virginia.
A devoted member of St. Joseph CME Church in Chapel Hill, North Carolina. Dwight
cherished every opportunity to return home and attend services. His strong sense of
family and caring spirit defined his life. He was the husband of Peggy J. Fearrington, the
caring father to his daughter, Sonya L. Fearrington.
Dwight had a deep passion for sports, especially for the Tar Heels. No matter the team's
performance, he would often share his thoughts with Sonya, calling to say, “Well, baby,
I don’t think we’re going to make the championship this go round.” His love for sports
was matched only by his love for family.
Preceded in death by: his father, Charlie Fearrington; his mother, Bernice Davis
Fearrington; and his brother, Norman Bernard Fearrington, Sr.
He is survived by his wife, Peggy J. Fearrington; daughter, Sonya L. Fearrington; two
sisters, Sharon Gore of Durham, North Carolina, and Tina Singletary of Durham, North
Carolina; and a host of beloved cousins, nieces, and nephews.
Dwight's legacy of love, warmth, and laughter will forever live on in the hearts of those
who knew him. He will be deeply missed.
