Mr. Donald James Redmond

Donald James Redmond was born to the late James and Catherine Redmond on
January 16, 1932, in Ridgefield Park, Bergen County, New Jersey. He passed away on
Wednesday, September 10, 2025, at his home in Columbia, South Carolina at the age
of 93.
After graduating from High School in 1950, Don enlisted in the United States Navy
where he served as an Aviation Machinist for four years during the Korean War. He
took the skills he learned from the military to build a lifetime career as a Welder/Heavy
Equipment Mechanic working on projects such as the St Lawerence Seaway and
traveling to Greenland and Saudia Aribia as a Ford Motors Contract Supervisor. He
finished his career, self-employed running his own welding/mechanic contracting
business in New Jersey and working well into his late 70s.
Don married his soulmate, the late Sue Sprey in November 1975. They loved traveling
the world from Europe, Asia, Australia to Don’s favorite New Zealand. In addition, they
enjoyed camping in the Poconos where they rented a year-round campsite at Otter
Lake, Pennsylvania.
Don is survived by his children, Michael Redmond, Englewood, Florida; Steven
Redmond, Granite, Oklahoma; Michelle England, Columbia, South Carolina; Lynn
Frustol, Fergus Falls, Minnesota; Meaghan Fritz, Andover, New Jersey; his eleven
grandchildren and six great grandchildren.
