Mr. Cornell Bailey was born January 3, 1945 in Columbia, South Carolina. He was the fifth of seven children born to the late Robert Bailey Sr., and Cornelia McDonald Bailey. He departed this life to be with the Lord on Tuesday, February 2, 2021 in Columbia, South Carolina.
Cornell was educated in the public schools of Richland County and was a 1963 graduate of Booker T. Washington High School. He received an electronic certification from a vocational opportunity school. Cornell served in the United States Army, as a SPC 4 with a tour in Germany. He started his career at Southern Bell (formally Bell South) and was a dedicated employee for twenty-six years until his retirement.
He was united in Holy Matrimony to the former Annie Dreher on July 8, 1967. This union was blessed with two sons. Cornell was baptized at Saint John Baptist Church and later moved his membership to Chappelle Memorial AME Church.
Cornell enjoyed playing pool, swimming and was a superior golf player. He was a former member of Ridgewood Golf Club and was awarded for his golf skills. Cornell was a genuine family man and always welcomed his nieces, nephews and relatives into the home where they created life-long memories around the poolside.
He was proceeded in death by two sisters; Mary Lee Pittman and Josephine Pearson Sims; two brothers; Robert Bailey, Jr., and Roosevelt Bailey.
Mr. Bailey leaves to cherish his memory his wife Annie Dreher Bailey of Columbia, SC; two sons, LaMonte Cornell Bailey and Brent Edwin Bailey both of Columbia, SC; one granddaughter Kennedy Bailey of Washington, DC; one grandson Nicholas Bailey of Columbia, SC; one brother Leroy Bailey of Columbia, SC; one sister, Dorothy (Richard) Smith of Columbia, SC; a beloved niece Juliet Chisolm of Columbia, SC; one aunt Mildred Tunstall of Philadelphia, PA; five sisters-in-law, Sandra Bailey, Ethel Thomas, and Sara Dreher-Canty of Columbia, SC, Marilyn Dreher of Philadelphia, PA, Deborah Dreher of Richmond, VA; two brothers-in-law; Floyd Dreher of Philadelphia, PA, and Louis (Connie) Dreher; a Goddaughter Regina Reed of Columbia, SC; and a host of nieces, nephews, other loving relatives and caring friends all of whom will miss him dearly.
