Cheyenne Aldamuy was born on October 28, 1956, in Staten Island, NY. He passed away on November 26, 2025, in Columbia, SC, surrounded by loved ones, at the age of 69.
Cheyenne worked as a U.S. Customs Broker at JFK Airport and, alongside his wife Claudia, co-founded the nonprofit Teach Enlighten Empower Motivate (TEEM) Productions, which provided after-school theatre arts programs in inner-city schools. Through TEEM, he helped hundreds of young people discover confidence, creativity, and a place to belong. In 2004, he relocated with his family to Columbia, South Carolina, where he worked for the Department of Mental Health until his retirement.
He is survived by his wife of 46 years, Dr. Claudia (Gooden) Aldamuy; his children, Cheyenne Jr., Crystal (Brad Byars), and Chad; his beloved niece and God-daughter, Talia Day, whom he cherished as a second daughter; and his nephew, Bill Gooden, whom he mentored and cared for throughout his life; his siblings, Geri-Ann, Maria (Victor Ferguson), David (Annette), and Mark; and his grandchildren, Jose Christopher, Braelyn, Brody, Ezra, and Ila. He is also survived by his God-children, Christopher Aldamuy, Alicia Brock, and Elisa-Maria Aldamuy; a host of nieces and nephews, grand-nieces and grand-nephews, cousins, and a community of children he helped raise—Jenna, Letasha, John, Brittany, and all of his TEEM kids.
He was preceded in death by his parents, Humbert and Ines (Joubert) Aldamuy, and his brother, Bert.
In honor of his love for public broadcasting and his belief in the power of speech and truth, the family welcomes donations to NPR or PBS in his name.
