Charles Alonza Bell, beloved son of the late Laura B. Bell and Willie Lee Bell, was born on November 16, 1947, in Eastover, South Carolina. Here he was lovingly delivered by Suzanne, a devoted midwife. As a child, Charles moved with his family to New York, where he was raised and where many of his lifelong passions were nurtured. He peacefully departed this life on Friday, January 2, 2026.
Charles was truly a sweet soul whose quiet strength and gentle spirit touched everyone who knew him. In his younger years, he attended an arts trade school, where he studied fashion, design, as well as photography. These creative pursuits reflected his keen eye for beauty, craftsmanship, and detail. He found joy in gardening, working on cars, and sharing his knowledge with others. Charles was a natural mentor, always patient, encouraging, and willing to guide those who sought his wisdom.
Above all, Charles was a devoted family man. His love for his family was evident in the care, patience, and consistency he showed throughout his life. He will be remembered for his kind heart, steady presence, and the warmth he brought into every space he entered.
Charles was preceded in death by his parents, Laura B. Bell and Willie Lee Bell, and his beloved brother, Edward Bell.
Charles A. Bell leaves to cherish his precious memories his loving wife, Mae Helen Bell; two daughters, Kawana La’Shawn Bell and La’Toya Sheryl Redfern; four cherished grandchildren, David Tyrell Daniel, TreVaughn John, KeyShaun John, and Twyla Michelle Brinkley; five sisters, Dorothy A. Strong, Essie M. Sumpter, Patricia (Jimmie) Fleming, Bessie (Randy) Brown and Hazel Reese; two brothers, Bernard (Pamela) Bell and Nicholas J. Bell; and a host of nieces, nephews, other loving relatives, and caring friends, all of whom will miss him dearly.
Charles’s legacy of love, creativity, mentorship, and gentle kindness will forever live on in the hearts of those blessed to know him.
