Mr. Benny Lee Gandy, Sr.

Benny L. Gandy, Sr., son of the late Harvey Lee Gandy and the late Ethelene Geiger, was born March 4, 1946 in Columbia, South Carolina.  He departed this life for a new body on Saturday, July 3, 2021 at his residence.   

Benny was a graduate of C. A. Johnson High School Class of 1964 and spent two years at Allen University.

After the loss of both parents at an early age, he was adopted by the late Elder Herman Jackson and Elder Calvin Jackson.  Benny was married to his wife and lifelong partner in faith Judith Jackson in 1967, and this union brought forth four children.

At an early age, Brother Gandy attended the Progressive Church of Our Lord Jesus Christ in Columbia, South Carolina.  Later he attended El Bethel Tabernacle in Swansea, South Carolina for 30 years under the leadership of Pastor Bennie Perry.  Following the call to ministry, Brother Gandy became an Elder in the church and began preaching the Gospel not only in Swansea, South Carolina but wherever he was called to preach.  This often led to missions overseas accompanying Pastor Perry to England, Africa, and India as well as to many states across the US and Canada.  Brother Gandy was the associate pastor at Open Bible Tabernacle in Atlanta, Georgia where he traveled many hours each week in service to God and the congregation. He tried to live the life he preached as a living "epistle written in our hearts, known and read of all men", II Corinthians 3:2.

Benny was employed at the South Carolina ETV Network for 30 years in various positions, until his retirement in 1995 as a Senior Television Producer/Director, where he produced popular TV programs like The Job Man Caravan. After retirement he worked as a supervisor for Capital Personnel at The State Newspaper for another 15 years before fully devoting his time to ministry.

Benny was preceded by two brothers, Freddie Geiger and Leroy Gandy. 

Benny leaves to mourn his passing, his loving wife Judith Gandy; children, Benny L. (Cynthia) Gandy Jr. of Greenville, SC,  Russell H. (Renee) Gandy of Coatesville, PA, Ethelene V. (Joseph) White of Akron, OH and Kenneth A. (Tracie) Gandy of Salisbury, NC; brother, Harvey (Loretta) Gandy of Irmo, SC; uncle, Robert (Emma) Geiger of Columbia, SC; adopted siblings, Herman Jackson of Due West, SC, Tonya Jackson of Columbia, SC, and Margie Jones of Baltimore, MD; ten grandchildren; seven great-grandchildren; and a host of other loving relatives and friends.
