Cleola Peak was born on October 29, 1930, to the late George Chester and Bessie Neely in
Memphis, Tennessee. She passed away peacefully at the age of 93 on January 30, 2024, in
Blythewood, South Carolina.
Cleola spent her early years living in Ninetysix Corner, Arkansas. At the age of 13, she and her
family relocated to South Bend, Indiana. While in Indiana, she met and married the love of her
life, Harold Peak, Sr.
Cleola, affectionately known as “Grandma Peak”, had a heart of gold and truly never met a
stranger. She loved to cook soul food and her specialty was sweet potato pie. Cleola was the
matriarch of the Neely Family. She had an excellent memory and enjoyed sitting and telling
stories of her childhood. Cleola cherished her family and her legacy will live on for many years
to come.
In addition to her parents, Cleola was preceded in death by her husband, Harold Peak, Sr.;
daughter, Shirley Odom; brothers, Fred Chester, Richard Chester, and Michael Chester; sisters,
Ruby J. Bean and Mary A. Taylor; grandchildren, Shawn Wiley, Larissa Dillard, Jonie Peak, and
Harold Peak III; and great-grandchild, Joy Bond.
Cleola leaves to cherish her memories three sons, Harold (Alfreda) Peak, Jr., Reginald Peak, and
Rodney (Clarissa) Peak; four daughters, Ann Harris, Dorothy Bacon, Jaqueline (John) Dillard,
and Sonja Peak; twenty-five grandchildren; 46 great-grandchildren; two brothers, Wesley
Chester and Ted Chester; one sister, Jonnie M. Roberson; and a host of loving relatives and
friends who will miss her dearly.
