Minister Harold Roacher Obituary

Harold Thomas Roacher, 53, entered eternal rest on Saturday, January 9, 2021. He was born on April 19, 1967 in Manhattan, New York to the late Lewis Thomas Roacher and Lillie Harvin Roacher. Harold was educated in the public schools of Clarendon County and Sumter counties and graduated from Sumter High School in 1986. He attended Sumter Technical College upon graduation and enlisted in the United States Army as a Communication Specialist in 1988. Harold was awarded the Army Service Ribbon, the National Defense Medal, the Southwest Asia Medal, two Bronze Service Stars, M-16 Marksman Army Achievement Medal, and an Army Good Conduct Medal. He completed a tour of duty in Germany and faithfully served his country in Operation Desert Storm.

Harold later matriculated at Midlands Technical College and Kaplan University where he earned an Associate’s Degree in Human Services. He was employed as a Behavior Management Specialist at the Rimini Marine Institute, Counselor and Program Coordinator at the South Sumter Resource Center, a Security Professional with Guard One Protective Services, a Client Service representative at the South Carolina Department of Social Services and a caseworker for the North Carolina Department of Human Services in Cabarrus County, North Carolina.

Harold dedicated his life to God and saving souls at the Miesau Church of God in Christ in Kaiserslautern, Germany in 1989. Upon returning stateside, Harold served faithfully as an adjutant for Bishop Laverne McKenny at The Love Center Non-Denominational Church in Sumter, South Carolina for over 20 years. He held many offices and titles including youth and adult Sunday school teacher. He had a profound revelation of the Word of God and was adept in teaching with great understanding. Harold was a minister of the Gospel, serving as Youth Leader, Superintendent, Men’s President, Deacon Board President and many other roles in the ministry. The congregation of the The Love Center believed Harold’s greatest role in the ministry was his ability to serve. He had a way of affecting all that came into his presence; many of the youth he served have said that he made them feel like they were “seen.”

Harold later became a member of 1Accord Church in Columbia, South Carolina where he served as an Elder, the Executive Director of Security, member of the Mass Choir, and an intricate member of the Intercessory Prayer Team. He was very serious about praying with and for others and about soul winning. He was a great role model of youth and men of all ages. Harold was always concerned about the welfare of other team members and never failed to express his love and gratitude to them for being a part of the team.

It was in church that Harold would meet his soon to be wife, Violet Grayson. Harold poured into the lives of all of her children. While their marriage would not last forever as they had hoped, Harold and Violet remained genial; and as a team, they reared Whitney Alanna Boyd and Brittany Tearra Boyd as his own. Harold continued on to be a grandfather to their children developing a close and unbreakable bond with his grandson Simon Emmanuel Sampson.

Harold is preceded in death by his father Lewis Thomas Roacher of Columbia, SC, maternal grandparents Deacon Thomas and Ida Farmer Harvin of Paxville, SC, and paternal grandparents Alonzo (Lonnie) and Lucille Lee Roacher, of Raleigh, N.C.
