Deacon Albert Brown Obituary

Albert George Brown was born January 26, 1936, to the late Winifred Clementson and Luther Brown in Runaway Bay, Jamaica West Indies. Raised in humble beginnings, “Nathan,” as he was affectionately called by his family, was the oldest of six children. He transitioned from time, into eternity on May 3, 2021.

Albert was raised by his grandmother, “Mama Bess,” and was educated in the public school system of Jamaica. Under the guidance of his grandmother, he accepted Christ at a young age, which would give him the basic principles necessary for the journey ahead.

As he matured into adulthood, he found his way working in the local police forces of Jamaica, even rising to Commanding ranks during his tenure there. He later emigrated to Bronx, New York, where he enrolled in business school. While attending school, he jump-started his career working diligently for General Motors on the assembly line. Following his move to Columbia, SC, Albert continued his career as a Financial Field Representative for GMAC (General Motors Acceptance Corporation) until the time of his retirement. Even in retirement, Albert spent several years employed on a part-time basis as a Patient Relations Representative with Providence Hospital, where he concluded his employment history.

Upon arriving in Columbia, Albert joined Saint John Baptist Church where he maintained membership for some time. He later joined Ridgewood Missionary Baptist Church under the pastorate of Reverend Levi C. Chavous and was later ordained a Deacon in the Lord’s Church under the pastorate of Reverend Fred W. Coit. In addition to this, Deacon Brown served in several other ministries until his health declined.

Albert was united in Holy Matrimony on July 29, 1978, to Alva Ojetta Taylor. To this union, two children, Kyle Jerrod and Karah Janee’ were born.

In the wake of his transition, he leaves behind his wife, Alva Ojetta; two sons, Albert George Jr. and Kyle Jerrod; one daughter, Karah Janee’; two brothers Edgar (Lola) Thomas, and Marcus (Dorothy) Clementson; as well as a host of nieces, nephews, cousins and other family members from New Jersey, to New York, and Jamaica.
