Terzah Mae Strother Gooden was born on July 7, 1925. She was the oldest of three children born to Roxie Geiger and Zack Strother who both preceded her in death. The sun set on her life on Friday, February 22, 2019.
“T. Mae”, as she was lovingly known, attended the public schools of Richland County and was a graduate of Booker T. Washington High School in 1943.
“T. Mae” loved music and was an active member of the St. John Baptist and Ridgewood Missionary Church choirs. She also sang with the James Cleveland Gospel Music Workshop Mass Choir. She was also a dedicated member of several women’s missionary societies at each church.
Her vocation as a seamstress introduced her to many people, many of whom she maintained lifelong friendships with. She could often be found in her kitchen baking a sweet treat or preparing a plate to share with a neighbor or a friend. Her creative side could be seen through her love of making ceramics, jewelry, and her original garments.
She was preceded in death by her loving husband, Leroy Gooden; her son, Frank W. Harris, Jr.; and her sister, Mary Ellen Berry.
Terzah leaves to treasure her memories two daughters, LaVerne Fluker of Columbia, SC and Kimberly Headen of Atlanta, GA; five grandchildren; ten great-grandchildren; and a host of loving relatives and friends.
