Ms. Destiny Cross

November 22, 2000 ~ July 2, 2018 (age 17) 17 Years Old

Destiny Crystal Cross was born on November 22, 2000 at Metropolitan Hospital in New York, New York to James and Greta Cross. She departed this earthly journey on Tuesday, July 2, 2018.

Destiny started her early childhood education in New York. The family later relocated to Columbia, South Carolina where she continued her education in the public schools of Richland County. She was a recent graduate of Lancaster High School. She was accepted into Johnson & Wales University in Charlotte, North Carolina to pursue her dream of being a dietician and cultivating her culinary abilities.

Destiny was a very active and involved student. She participated in the Ms. W.A. Perry Pageant and was 1st Runner up. She was in JROTC and received the Highest Academic Award from University of South Carolina.

Destiny was baptized at New Ebenezer Baptist Church. She was a member of the Teen “Spirit” Choir and participated in several plays with the Drama Ministry.

Destiny had a passion for sports, cooking, art and music. She would often spend quality time playing golf with her father. During her spare time, she would be found playing her favorite sport of basketball and swimming. Music was also a huge part of her life. She was always connected to her headphones so she could listen to music without interruption.

Destiny was preceded in death by her grandfather, Dennis Grant and her sister, Teresa Grant.

Destiny leaves to cherish her precious memories are her parents, James and Greta Cross; five brothers, Thomas Grant, Johnnie Grant, James Cross, Jr., Kareem Cross and Daquawn Cross; paternal grandmother, Alferstine Cross of Brooklyn, NY; maternal grandmother, Margery Grant of New York, NY; two great-grandmothers, Eula Bishop of Orangeburg, SC and Eva Drummond of Bronx, NY; one nephew, Thomas Grant, Jr.; one niece, Sariah Cross; three uncles, Dennis Grant, Jr. of NY, Steven and Douglas Cross of Brooklyn, NY; god-parents, Kevin and Vickie Sloan, Joanne Alvarez and Charmae Sykes; a special grandmother, Julia Murphy, a special aunt, Wanda Terry, and a host of relatives and friends whom will all miss her dearly.
