Annie Bell Small Gourdine, “Frizal”, as she was affectionately called, peacefully transitioned from this earthly journey to her heavenly home on April 2, 2018. Annie Bell was born on May 9, 1924, in Cross, South Carolina, to the late Joe and Jannie B. Smalls.
Annie Bell attended schools in the Cross area of Berkeley County. After graduating from high school, she moved to Newark, New Jersey and married John Gourdine of Pineville, South Carolina. After residing in New Jersey for ten years, Annie Bell returned to South Carolina and lived in Charleston until her mother became very ill. She then returned to the family residence in Cross and reconnected with Zion United Methodist Church where she served faithfully until her death.
Annie Bell was preceded in death by her daughter, Elizabeth "Sug" Gourdine and eight of her ten siblings.
She leaves to cherish her fond memories: a daughter, Viola Gourdine of Cross, SC; a son, John (Cynthia) Gourdine, Sr. of Cross, SC; one sister, Mary Queen Jackson of Newark ,NJ; one brother, Robert Small of Newark, NJ; six grandchildren, Rayshawn Gourdine of NC, Patricia Gourdine of VA, Shana Gourdine of Troy, NY, John Gourdine, Jr, Jonathan Gourdine, Winnie(Corey) Ferguson; seven great-grandchildren, Emani Brown, Rayshawn Gourdine, Jr., LaPatrice McFadden, Winnie (Corey) Ferguson, Cedric Gourdine, Anthony Gourdine, Antonio Gourdine; ten great great grandchildren, Leonna Gourdine Walker, Sanira Gourdine Walker, Corey Ferguson, Jr., Kyra Ferguson, Sanii ,Gourdine, John Gourdine lll, Isabella Gourdine, Brooklyn Gourdine, Gabriella Gourdine, and Cenora Gourdine; two devoted friends, Ms. Rebecca "Mary" Ferguson, and Mr. Leroy Middleton, and a host of nieces, nephews, other relatives, and friends.
