Mrs. Mary Augusta Coaxum Hankins, affectionately known as “Doll”, was born on February 8, 1946, in Colleton County, South Carolina to the late Nelle and Ella White Coaxum. On Sunday, April 29, 2018 she peacefully transitioned from this earthly journey to her heavenly home.

Doll was educated in the Richland County Public School System where she was a 1965 graduate of C. A. Johnson High School. She was employed for many years as a caring and dedicated bus driver for Richland County School District One.

During her youth, Mrs. Hankins accepted Christ and joined the Wesley United Methodist Church in Columbia, South Carolina. While at Wesley United Methodist Church, she was a faithful member and worked with several organizations. She later moved her membership to First Nazareth Baptist Church.

Doll was a loving wife, devoted mother and grandmother to her children and grandchildren. She worked hard to instill in them good sound Christian values, which will be honored and cherished for many years to come. Doll received much joy from her experiences of traveling to many states in the United States with her husband Wesley and their three daughters. She and Wesley were also blessed to travel internationally. Doll often commented about how grateful she was for the opportunities of exposure and enlightenment.

Doll was an excellent cook and an avid gardener, she loved to grow beautiful flowers and vegetables in her yard. It brought her much joy to share with others items that she grew in her garden. She also freely shared knowledge of effective ways to produce a more bountiful crop to anyone who was interested in learning.

In addition to her parents, Mrs. Hankins was preceded in death by her daughter, Sherry Trina Hankins Cannon; three brothers, Henry B. Coaxum, George Coaxum and Sylvester Coaxum; and one sister, Sylvia Coaxum.
