Mrs. Martha Jeanette Arthur Chavis

December 4, 1947 ~ October 14, 2019 (age 71) 71 Years Old

Mrs. Martha Jeanette Arthur Chavis, better known as “Jeanette”, was born December 4, 1947 in Blythewood, South Carolina.   She was the beloved baby daughter of the late Frank and Ophelia (Coleman) Arthur.  Jeanette departed this earthly life, shortly after being diagnosed with cancer, on the 14 day of October 2019 at home to be with the Lord.

Jeanette was educated in the public school system of Richland County.   She was a 1966 graduate of Bethel High School.   After graduation, she was employed by Midlands Center, Crafts-Farrow State Hospital, Allied Chemical, General Electric, and she retired from Blue Cross Blue Shield of South Carolina on December 31, 2007.

At an early age, she joined New Free Hope Church; where she remained faithful, loyal and dedicated.  During her service to the Lord, she participated on the Usher Board, assisted with the Youth Ministry, served as the Events Coordinator, served on the Trustee Board, served on the Missionary Board, was Recording Secretary of the Board of Officers, was assistant to the Financial Secretary and assisted with the Church Order of Service Programs.  Jeanette always came up with ideas for fundraisers any time the church had special projects.   She faithfully attended Bible Study, Sunday School, Prayer Service, and Sunday Worship Service.  Jeanette initially organized Operation Angel Tree.  She worked in almost every area in the Service of the Lord at New Free Hope until the Lord saw it favorable that she should rest with Him.

On December 3, 1966, Jeanette married the Love of her life, Rudolph T. Chavis.  From this union three children were born.  She was a loving wife, a compassionate mother and grandmother, an extraordinary great-grandmother, a trusted friend, a sincere sister, and a true Woman of God, who touched the hearts of everyone who knew her.

Jeanette was preceded in death by her oldest sister, Frances O. Arthur King; and her devoted nieces, Kim L. Arthur Brown and Karen L. Bowers.

Those left to cherish Jeanette Chavis’ fond and precious memories are her husband, Rudolph T. Chavis; two daughters, Tracy R. Chavis and Karen D. (Robert) Delly III of Blythewood, South Carolina; one son, Myron A. (Melody) Chavis of Ecourse, Michigan; four siblings:  Dorothy Bowers, Douglas (Bobbie) Arthur, and Carolyn Roberson of Blythewood, South Carolina, and David Robinson of Sumter, South Carolina;  six grandchildren: Amanda Coleman, Terrance Liddell, Jontay Mitchem, Mariah Mitchem, Marquis Chavis, and Malik Chavis; four loving great-grandchildren:  Amyah Palmer, Stefan Palmer, Liam Liddell, Regan Barbier; two step-great-grandchildren: Kedar Tucker and Aniya Goins; one aunt:  Martha Mae Cunningham; five Godchildren:  Marnie T. Corley, Da Meka Corley, Tyra Sweeney, Brianna Sweeney, and Dominque McCray; and  Charity Johnson (Coleman), Shaquanda Barbier; and a host of cousins, nephews, nieces, other family members and friends.
