Mrs. Gamalia "MeMa" Ann Evans Hill

June 10, 1945 ~ July 14, 2018 (age 73) 73 Years Old

 

Gamalia Ann Evans Hill affectionately known as “MeMa” was born June 10, 1945 to the late Clara and Frank Evans in Durham, North Carolina. She gracefully transitioned from her earthly journey to her heavenly home on July 14, 2018, surrounded by family.

 Gamalia was educated in the public school system in Durham, North Carolina and was a graduate of Hillside High School, Class of 1963.  Gamalia was employed at The Midlands Center in Columbia, South Carolina, where she worked in many different departments until retirement.

 At an early age, Gamalia was baptized at Mount Level Missionary Baptist Church in Durham, North Carolina.

Gamalia had an open heart filled with so much love for family and friends. She dedicated her life and shared her home with so many people. Gamalia extended her love to those she did not know by cooking and providing meals to strangers, family, and friends.

Gamalia met and later married the love of her life Herbert Roosevelt Hill, Sr. in 1964. From this union, two children were born:  Stephanie Renee Hill and Herbert Roosevelt Hill, Jr. They were blessed to celebrate fifty-four years of devoted love.

In addition to her parents, Gamalia was preceded in death by her sister, Margie Evans; two grandsons; Darius Mallory and Johnathon Dennis.

Gamalia leaves to mourn her passing and cherish her precious memories, are her husband, Herbert R. Hill, Sr.; one daughter, Stephanie Hill; one son, Herbert (Bobbi) R. Hill, Jr. all of Columbia, SC; two sisters, Diane Evans and Patsy Evans of Durham, NC; eight grandchildren, Harviar Pryor, Shamene Jones, Jaylon Pryor, Brian Green, Heath Miller and Alexandria (Garrett) Cloud, Avan Cano, and Zhari Jones all of Columbia, SC; twenty-six nieces and nephews, Brittany (Jerahmie), Anitra, Renita, Kokeya, Franklin, Devin, all of Durham, NC, Jerry (Jackie) of Atlanta, GA, Sharon (Isaiah), Robbie, Vhondrena, Carlton(Wanda), Jody (Phyllis), Calvin (Theresa),  Jr., Wendell, Sharon, Gloria, Debbie, Cheryl (Winfred), Cynthia (Fred) and Patricia all of Virginia, Lois, Ruby (Leroy) Winona, Nicole, Debbie and Harvey, Jr. all of Baltimore, MD; Bernae (Daryl) of Jacksonville, FL; two aunts, Irene Goss and Lucy Thompson of Durham, NC and Rose Timberlake of FL; three sisters-in-law, Bertha Epps, Lucy Gordon and Edith (Mearl) Smith, all of Virginia; one brother-In-Law, Calvin (Ina) Hill, Sr.; seven godchildren, Latonya , Willie Jean, Jacqueline, Irene, Catrenia, Wendell (Jackie), and Tyrone (Claudia) all of Columbia, SC; and a host of other loving family members and friends.
