Edith Corona Whitener was born on February 27, 1936 to the late Robert and Marion Marshall in Columbia, South Carolina. She departed this life on September 19, 2019 at Prisma Health Richland after a brief illness.
Edith began her education at St. Martin de Porres Catholic School, of which she was proud. She completed her education at C.A. Johnson High school, a Richland County School.
Edith was married to Suber Whitener, Jr. and from this union seven children were born. She enjoyed her family and watching the “You’ve Got A Minute To Win It!” on the Game Show Network. She was employed by Anchor Continental where she dedicated many productive years before retiring.
After retiring, Edith volunteered as a foster grandparent for Watkins Nance Elementary and Joseph Keels Elementary Schools.
Edith was a faithful member of Cleaves Memorial CME Church where she served as a member of the Missionary Board, Senior Musical Choir, the Usher Board and many more auxiliaries.
Edith was preceded in death by her loving and supportive husband of 64 years, Suber Whitener, Jr.; daughter, Sylvia Whitener; parents, Robert and Marion Marshall; sisters, Catherine Davis, Peggy Cain and Irene Griffin; and brother, Robert Marshall, Jr.
She leaves to cherish her memory her three daughters, Gloria Bookman, Bernice Blanding and Terri Whitener-Barr, all of Columbia, SC; three sons, Paul Whitener, Bernard Whitener and Michael Whitener, Sr., all of Columbia, SC; one grandchild, Shanna Whitener, which she raised as her own, of Columbia, South Carolina; one sister, Shirley Rollins of Roseville, Michigan; many grandchildren, great-grandchildren; and a host of other family and friends.
