Welcome to the memorial page for

Mr. Kenny Ray Robinson

July 16, 1961 ~ June 12, 2019 (age 57) 57 Years Old

Kenny Ray Robinson was born on July 16, 1961, in Chicago, Illinois to the late Bessie Anna Lee Sawyer and Earl Sawyer. He was raised by his godparents, Bessie and Benny Kirskey; better known to Kenny as Aunt Bessie and Uncle Benny. He departed his earthly walk on Wednesday, June 12, 2019.

Kenny was educated in the public schools of Cook County Illinois and graduated from Argo Community High School in 1979. He was offered a baseball scholarship, but declined the scholarship to join the United States Army. While serving in the Army, Kenny took advantage of military school and military courses to help him attain a higher ranking. He was eventually promoted to Drill Sargent and later Master Sargent. In 1992, Kenny was honorably discharged after many years of dedicated service in the United States Army.

In later years, Kenny served in management positions for several restaurants in Columbia, South Carolina. He often spoke of owning his own restaurant someday and had a short lived experience in doing so. He was proud at the chance to start the process.

Kenny was a part of the Kidney Foundation, and often spoke at several events as well as events within the community. He was heavily involved in and attended Citadel of Hope Christian Ministries where he served as a deacon under the leadership of Bishop Eric B. Morris.

Kenny often visited his home in Chicago and would always return with stories of family and friends. Like his Columbia Community, he loved the Argo Community and always did what he could for both. Kenny prided himself in being of service and helping others the best he could.

Kenny, “Pops” as he was affectionately called, was strong, direct, respectful, comforting, and caring. He was also very loving, smart, funny, family oriented, a fighter and loved to talk. He taught all of his children to be the same way and to leave an indelible mark on the world just as he did.

Kenny was preceded in death by his parents, Bessie Anna Lee Sawyer and Earl Sawyer; godparents, Bessie and Benny Kirskey; sister, Denise Taylor; and brothers, Rev. Anthony Taylor and Sidney E. Taylor.

Kenny leaves behind to cherish precious memories to his loving and devoted wife, Zina B. Robinson; two daughters, Regina Adderly Lee and Sequitta Leanell Robinson; three sons; Jason Adderly, Kenny Robinson and Chico Brunson; sisters, Johnnie “Fruity” McDaniel, Katherine Marion Parsons, Earline Sawyer, Cora Cunningham, Jacqueline Taylor-Sawyer, Sharon Weaver, and Marion “Scooter” Taylor; brothers, Bobby Sawyer, Paul Sawyer, Cornelius Sawyer, William E. Sawyer, Theron Weaver, Richard Taylor, and Andre “Shanet” Taylor; grandchildren, Seven Kahlel-Lucius Davis, Aaliyah Lee, and Jordan Adderly; special cousins, Duke, Sam, Stanley, Cortez, Kevin, and Chuck; the Argo Community in Chicago, Illinois; and a host of other loving relatives and friends.
