Mr. Daniel Grant

Daniel Grant was born on July 3, 1940 to the late Thomas and Elise Grant. He entered into eternal rest on Monday, June 3, 2019 at Providence Hospital in Columbia, South Carolina.

Daniel was educated in the public schools of Richland County and attended Bethel High School in Blythewood, South Carolina.

At an early age, Daniel was baptized at Mt. Pilgrim Baptist Church in Lugoff, South Carolina. He served his church faithfully for many years as Chairman of the Trustee Board.

He spent his career caring for others as an aide at Craft Farrow State Hospital where he retired after thirty years of Service. For many years, Daniel was the owner and operator of D&J Community Grocery Store. He also worked as an Environmental Services Supervisor for twenty-two years at Palmetto Health Richland.

Daniel was an active member of Capital City Lodge #47 and CC Johnson Consistory for many years until his health began to fail. There he was recognized with many outstanding service awards including Mason of the Year in 2005.

Daniel was preceded in death by his sons, Reginald T. Grant and Ralph R. Grant; brothers, Willie Grant and St. Joseph Grant; and sisters, Alice Grant and Rachel Taylor.

Daniel is survived by his loving and devoted wife of 58 years, Hattie Gripper Grant; two sons, Dennis Grant of Palmetto, GA and Michael Grant of Columbia, SC; daughter, Donna Gilyard of Columbia, SC; one son-in-law, John Gilyard of Columbia, SC; two sisters, Minnie English and Pauline McCormick of Columbia, SC; two brothers, John (Dorothy) Grant and Harry Grant of Columbia, SC; brothers-in-law and sisters-in-law, Sip (Mary Ann) Gripper, Joseph (Maize) Gripper, Ernestine (Bosie) Palmer, Clara St. Clair, Thomas Lee Palmer, and Mamie Grant; three grandchildren; two great-grandchildren; one godson, Reginald Sampson, a special niece raised in the home, Alice Perry of Richmond, VA; and a host of other loving relatives and friends.
