Elder Harry Brown, Jr.

April 16, 1936 ~ January 16, 2019 (age 82) 82 Years Old

Elder Harry Brown Jr. was born on April 16, 1936 in Florence, South Carolina, to the late Geneva (Muldrow) and Harry Brown Sr. He went to sleep on January 16, 2019 to await the coming of our Lord Jesus Christ. Elder Harry Brown Jr. was married to his beloved Dorothy for 55 wonderful years.

Elder Brown was educated in the public schools of Florence County. He completed his secondary education while serving in the United States Army. He attended Florence-Darlington Technical College, Queens College, the University of South Carolina, and studied to become a Physician’s Assistant in New York. Harry used his experience as a medic in the United States Army to further his interest in the medical field. Upon his departure from the military, he was trained as a hemodialysis technician. He was employed by Fresenius Medical Care and other dialysis service providers in Columbia, Lexington, and Camden, South Carolina.

Elder Brown’s Christian faith was established while working with Malcolm Phipps in an evangelistic series in Florence, South Carolina in the late 1950s. Years later he joined the church and was a faithful Seventh-day Adventist Christian working in various capacities in the church. The majority of his service was assisting the ministry as an ordained elder for over 50 years. Some of his major accomplishments include: serving on the Pastoral Staff of many pastors, often standing in for Pastors as they presided over other districts; starting the Pathfinder program in the Columbia, South Carolina area; serving as a radio speaker in the Columbia/West Columbia area; reading for radio programs for the blind; becoming a foster father of over 160 children and serving as president of the Foster Parent Association for four years. He also led by example and influenced others to live a physically fit life as a vegetarian. He was a boxer that competed in pursuit Golden Glove status, but stopped boxing when he became a Christian.

Harry dedicated his life to The Lord and his family, loved ones, Christian service, Bible study, and the promotion of a Godly lifestyle.

Harry was preceded in death by his parents, Geneva Muldrow and Harry Brown Sr; and stepmother, Anna Bell Brown.

Elder Brown leaves to cherish his precious memory and legacy his loving wife, Dorothy Brown; son, Harry Brown, III (Terresa) of Columbia, SC; daughter, Dorothea Brown of Benton Harbor, Michigan; two sisters, Mary Moses and Ruth Foster; two brothers, Herbert Brown (Jamie), and Herman Brown; three grandchildren, Harrold, William, and Dennice of Benton Harbor, Michigan; and a host of loving nieces, nephews, and foster children.
